Statistical Modelling

The ability to analyse data and find patterns.

Statistical Modelling

Level 1

Is able to use statistical methods. Is able to analyse data in a basic way.

  • Experimentation: You understand the basic principles of experimentation.

  • Predictive modelling: You are able to run simple predictive models.

  • Maths & statistics: You can use basic statistical models to analyse data.

Level 2

Is able to use statistical methods, and to summarise the data in different ways.

  • Experimentation: You understand the reasons for experimentation and are able to simulate a variety of experiments.

  • Predictive modelling: You are able to interpret the output of a given predictive model.

  • Maths & statistics: You use statistical modelling for basic analysis of data. You use statistical models to explore relationships in data, and build regression models.

Level 3

Is able to use statistical methods comprehensively, and can summarise data in many different ways. Understands how to use statistical modelling to build predictive models that might help the business.

  • Experimentation: You are able to design and execute experiments to answer a given question.

  • Predictive modelling: You are able to design, build and evaluate predictive models. You have a broad understanding of statistical modelling techniques and their application in business contexts.

  • Maths & statistics: You are able to explore data in detail to find significant relationships, and build sophisticated statistical models.

Level 4

Is an expert at using statistical modelling, and is able to build predictive models that can help the business. Has an excellent understanding of how the models work, and the implications for using them.

  • Experimentation: You design and executes complex experiments from scratch.

  • Predictive modelling: You are able to build, evaluate and operationalise predictive models. You have a broad understanding of modelling techniques and their application in business contexts.

  • Maths & statistics: You have a strong understanding of the principles of statistics, with knowledge in more than one area of statistical modelling. You mentor junior members on more complex statistical issues and are able to have a deep discussion about the principles of statistics.

Level 5

Is known inside and outside the organisation as an expert at using statistical modelling for prediction purposes. Leads the organisation in building predictive models.

  • Experimentation: You are an expert in applying experimental methods to understand how different variables interact with each other. You drive innovation through experimentation across all aspects of the company's operations.

  • Predictive modelling: You lead the team that builds, evaluates and operationalises predictive models. You have a broad understanding of modelling techniques and their application in business contexts.

  • Maths & statistics: You have a thorough understanding of all aspects of statistics. You understand how different methods answer different questions about the problem, and know when it's necessary to proceed with caution when exploring complex problems.
